I'm a busy guy lately!

I went and hacked the D2 coilover install into 7 pieces, two of which are brand new and relate to my findings on this last Saturday afternoon.

I also added a link in the reviews section to a very nice Liberty RS that runs 11.4 and looks good doing it too!

Well, after a hard day of work on the course, i came away from the latest Solo II event much more satisfied with the results, and my car.

It was a very tight finish in Street Modified. It's a class in which i'm outclassed, but placing in the middle of the pack, 7th of 11, is very pleasing for me. Just over a second separated 4th from 8th while the winner, Alan in his 300Z V6-equipped Datsun 510 and the Shelby CSX made us all feel a little slower.

My coilovers got rave reviews, both from a passenger and from friends familiar with its heretofore crazy body roll. Everyone commented on how flat it was cornering and how surprised they were at how well it was turning. I am very pleased.

Understeer is still a problem, but if i ever get my CUSCO 21mm bar from TRi, things should be a bit more neutral and leaning towards oversteer.

I've added Remarcable's page to the Links, the D2 Coilover install to the Library's How To section, and linked to Autospeed's excellent guides to Intercooling in the Library's Tech Documents section.

Finally, i've included the SPO Legacy Wagon review in the Car Reviews section.

Oh, and i think i've got the coilovers almost where i want them :D

Jason sent me a Subaru tech magazine with a very nice article on how to replace the timing belt on the EJ22. This will apply to the NA and Turbo versions.

Coilover report posted Friday, April 13, 2001 by Dave

I've whipped up a preliminary report on the D2 coilovers I installed on Wednesday. The report is far from complete, and i'll be adding more pictures of the coilovers themselves, the install process, and tuning information as it progresses.

D2 Coilovers

They're in! posted Thursday, April 12, 2001 by Dave

Well, i got my D2 coilovers from TRi Tuning yesterday and had enough time to install them.

The installation will be written up, but it was more time consuming than difficult. I could have simply removed the old struts and installed new ones if i'd had new top hats. I had to use the old ones, however, so i did have to take everything apart.

These things are beautiful, well put together and they work as they should. The spring rates are a high 375f/325r, but that's still OK for a heavy car like my wagon. I pretty much had to guess on height for the whole assembly and spring, but i got it just about right.

I'm still messing with the rebound adjustments to get rid of the jounce, but i'm only 1/3 the way into the adjustable range.

Stay tuned for a more detailed writeup with images.

I just ordered a set of D2 coilovers from Chris at TRi Tuning. These are very similar to the TEIN HA units that many RS owners are using. In fact, the company that makes TEIN, makes these.

They're 24-position adjustable with aluminum bodies, 375/325# springs and are fully rebuildable.

I can't wait!

I'm also getting a 2nd hand CUSCO 21mm rear swaybar from them. This is going to make a HUGE difference on the autocross course.

Well, Sunday's event at the eCenter in SLC was huge. At least 120 cars were on hand, and the number of newbie drivers was staggering. I almost felt like a veteran after only running in two previous events.

I did have two decent runs our of 3, which should have been four, but was shortened due to the huge attendance. Two off-course excursions on my last run pretty much finished my hopes of improving on my 86-second first run. I think i placed 17th out of 100+.

Man, i need some coilovers BAD! A 20-22mm rear swaybar wouldn't hurt either. I'm working on those, so stay tuned.

I've also got a new O2 sensor ready to go in, but it's going to be harder to replace than i first thought.
